Interview: Katherine Elizabeth

I’m glad to introduce the interview with Katherine Elizabeth, a young photographer I found at Flickr.

How did you get into photography?

-Photography had a really unexpected entrance into my life. My family moved from California to Texas my senior year of high school (two years ago), so I used to go outside and walk around in this farm behind our house. I was incredibly inspired by all the greenery and surroundings we didn’t have in California. One day my dad was digging out his old Canon AE-1 and asked if I wanted to use it. After my first roll of film, I was hooked.

- You are 19 but your photos look really impressive and professional, what is the secret?

-Well for me, it all starts with having a passion for what I do. You have to really want to learn, and be patient with the time it may take to get somewhere. Go out and be aggressive with it, and put all your effort into getting there.

- How do you find models for your shots?

-The majority of my models are friends, although I think after this year of using them all so much, they won’t be as enthusiastic as modeling for me in the future! They are all troopers with me though, and I appreciate all of them for putting time into my dream and passion.

- Do you do commercial shots or photography is just a hobby for you?

-Currently I’m working on a 365 project which is a self-portrait project on Flickr.com. I also try to do other commercial work like working with bands, model portfolios, families, events, etc. Anything I can get my hands on.

- Any thoughts about your further career, will you be a professional photographer?

-For the near future, I’m working on my B.F.A in Creative Photography which is really exciting for me! However, my ultimate goal is to become a fashion photographer and work around magazine print work.

- What is your favorite music?

- I’d have to say I like mostly rock, or indie rock. Although I always have had a soft spot for musicians like Coldplay, Yann Tiersen, and movie soundtracks.
